Jambalaya Recipe 🍛
Here's a delicious recipe for Jambalaya that captures the rich flavors of this classic Southern dish:
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 pound chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 pound Andouille sausage, sliced
1 large onion, diced
1 bell pepper, diced
2 stalks celery, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
1 cup long-grain rice
2 cups chicken broth
1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 tablespoons chopped parsley, for garnish
2 green onions, sliced, for garnish
Instructions:
Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the chicken and set aside.
In the same pot, add the sausage slices and cook until browned. Remove and set aside with the chicken.
Add the onion, bell pepper, and celery to the pot. Sauté until the vegetables are soft, about 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute.
Add the Cajun seasoning and cayenne pepper to the vegetables, stirring well to combine.
Stir in the diced tomatoes, making sure to scrape any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
Add the rice and chicken broth to the pot. Return the chicken and sausage to the pot, stirring to combine all ingredients.
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked.
Add the shrimp to the pot, cover, and cook for another 5 minutes, or until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.
Remove from heat, season with salt and pepper to taste, and let sit for a few minutes before serving.
Garnish with chopped parsley and sliced green onions before serving.
Cooking Tips:
If you prefer a smokier flavor, consider using smoked sausage instead of Andouille.
Adjust the spice level by varying the amount of cayenne pepper.
Serving Suggestions:
Jambalaya is best served hot and can be enjoyed on its own or with a side of cornbread. A cool, crisp salad can also complement the dish well.
